Histories and Impressions of Scottish Castles . . .
. . . and other historical stuff.
This book is a tribute to my good friend, and inspiration, Nigel Tranter (1909-2000), the remarkable author and historian. Where so many historians have failed rather miserably by making such an important and fascinating subject so dull and lifeless, Nigel Tranter's numerous books (over 130 of them) will forever captivate, thrill and educate people on over a thousand years of Scottish history.
Several of the 34 castles covered in this book are not the typical main road tourist traps, but are little known ruins, remote and well off the beaten track.
Each castle is depicted by illustrations made over some 40 years from 1973 to 2013, accompanied by detailed notes, often revealing rarely told secrets of these icons of Scottish heritage.
10% of proceeds are donated to save the very rare Scottish Wildcat from extinction.
