The Rugged Island - A Shetland Lyric (1934) Produced and filmed by Jenny Brown. A drama-documentary about a young couple torn between the choice of emigrating to Australia or remaining to work their croft in Shetland and take care of their parents. Click here for a film clip of The Rugged Island.
Eriskay - A Poem of Remote Lives (1935) A study of Eriskay's crofting life, filmed by Dr Werner Kissling during a summer spent on the island. It was filmed mute during the summer of 1934. Narration and music was added in a London studio. The film was premiered on April 1935.
Life in the Orkneys (1957) Made in 1957 by Campbell Harper of Edinburgh this is Life in the Orkneys seen through the eyes of a mail boat skipper, a farmer and a civil air-service pilot. It includes a brief scene of the German fleet in Scapa Flow prior to scuttling in 1919, and an aerial shot of the Churchill Barriers.
Handba' at Kirkwall, Orkney (1939) a short about the annual New Year's Day Kirkwall Ba' game between the uppies and the doonies.

The St Kilda Story is the filmed history of St Kilda from 1908 to 1980. In black and white Oliver Pike's pioneering film of 1908 depicting birdlife and fowling; 1920s footage by Robello and Mann on tourism and village life; the final stages before the 1930 evacuation filmed by John Ritchie.

Also includes Wildlife of St Kilda filmed over 25 years from 1957. We see the competitive world of over a million seabirds - gannets, fulmars, puffins, kittewakes, gulls and by night Manx Shearwaters and the rare Leach's Petrel. Great Skuas attack human visitors and the unique St Kilda wrens defend their territitories. Also seen are the St Kilda fieldmouse and the brown Soay sheep.

Shot in colour, often from the dizzy heights of the main towers, The Long Span features all stages in the construction of the bridge and approach roads. Includes considerable technical detail plus scenes of lorries and heavy earth-moving equipment working on the approach roads.

The DVD also includes Forth Islands, the history and flora and fauna of Inchgarvie, Inchmickery, Inchkeith, Inchcolm, the Bass Rock and the Isle of May, filmed by Brian Cairney.
